Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

Clang, clang, clang went the trolley,
Ding, ding, ding went the bell,
Zing, zing, zing went my heart strings
From the moment I saw him I fell……..

What a perfectly glorious day – The Easter Bunny and Jesus would have been equally thrilled to have been served such a compliment of sunshine and lack of wind in downtown San Fransisco on Easter Sunday. Delores Park was transported into a Portal of colour and Smiles filled with families, balloons, bubbles and children.

I love our life and WOW did we land in the proverbial pot of jam on the weekend. I can’t say I am religious person and I don’t know when I last sat in a park for so many hours but I truly could convert for “The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” and the Hunky Jesus Parade what a glorious treat. I smiled from the moment I arrived in awe of the effort and commitment of men walking around in heels in a park!!

One young sister who was from Wisconsin said “We don’t have anything like this where I come from, the love, you can feel the love everywhere” and he was speaking the truth. A day of perfection where there was no judgement, no ridicule, no looking the other way.
All inclusive, celebrating ALL of our differences and unique perspectives. From Tattoos to Crowns, the Pope & the Russian Orthodox Priest, Beehives and Buxom Beauties Such an extraordinary array of makeup and hairstyles. To be quite honest I smiled from the moment I arrived and it continued long after I left. I witnessed community, generosity, kindness and love, so much LOVE and my heart was full. What would it take for this to become the contagion – where we ALL care and love one another.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a charity, protest, and street performance organization that uses drag and religious imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirizes issues of gender and morality. They raise money for AIDS, LGBT-related causes, and mainstream community service organizations, while promoting safer sex and educating others about the harmful effects of drug use and other risky behaviors.
